Fabric of Reality (100% Synthetic)

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper
50x50cm – 2021

‘Fabric of Reality (100% Synthetic)’ is a silkscreen print depicting a pattern with a psychedelic style reminiscent of Andean fabrics. The name of the artwork is a play on words referencing both the textile-like appearence of the piece and its synthetic origin, generated by a computer. The concept of ‘fabric of reality’ refers to the underlying structure or framework that gives shape and meaning to our experience of the world. It can be thought of as the “stuff” that reality is made of, or the underlying principles and laws that govern the way the universe operates, the way in which it is structured.

Turing Pattern 06

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper

34x34cm – 2021

The ‘Turing Pattern’ is based on the principle of morphogenesis. Developed by the British mathematician Alan Turing in 1952, morphogenesis examines the structural changes that occur during embryogenesis. I applied this mathematical model to my artistic technique, utilising the reaction-diffusion principle of morphogenesis.

‘Turing Pattern 06’ is an optical exploration of the Turing pattern that evokes a wide range of interpretations. Some viewers may see seabeds, while others see patterns of animal fur or veins. To create this artwork, I departed from my typical use of shadow masks, which are commonly employed in CRT screens to achieve a high level of control and precision. Instead, I employed an alternative method to achieve a more organic and natural aesthetic, resulting in the intricate and nuanced patterns often found in nature.

1992

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper

60x60cm – 2021

‘1992’ is a silkscreen printing inspired by the diverse and eclectic style of the 90’s pop culture, fashion, art and technology. The graphic patterns are bold, flashy, with bright colors, geometric shapes, and abstract designs.

This artwork is also an exploration of Glitch art: I intentionally caused glitches in over 2000 video games, manually, over several days. Then, I incorporated these raw, digital glitches with the vibrant hues of my RGB matrix. This print evokes the aesthetics of the early days of the 80-90s arcade games culture and the technology that was used at the time.

Electric sheep

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper

60x60cm – 2021

The silkscreen printing ‘Electric sheep’ is inspired by the book of Philip K. Dick: ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’. The combination of various glitches creates a visual landscape that evokes a machine or a robot, dreaming of its disjointed, fragmented day. Appearing as a whole incomprehensible to humans, the piece invites viewers to explore the boundaries between humans and machines, delving into the imaginary inner workings of artificial intelligence.

Uneven Lines A

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper
50x70cm – 2019

‘Uneven Lines A’ is a piece that pays homage to the organic beauty of the hand-drawn line. The print is created using a single line, drawn by hand and then repeated in such a way that it forms a grid, filling the canvas with a rich tapestry of colors.

Tenshi

27×38.5cm – 2018

‘Tenshi’ is a colour experimentation with gradient creation solely based on grid modification applied with my RGB Printing technique.

Please Stand By

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper

50x70cm – 2018 & reprint in 2021

This piece is a printed illusion of a TV screen. The artwork transports the viewer to this bygone era, when one had to wait for their favorite programme to start. The frame was created by using a folding technique that was used in the first arcade machines.

During exhibitions, this artwork is shown with UV lighting, further reinforcing the illusion of a TV screen.

Femme Fatale 2

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper
34x45cm – 2019

‘Femme Fatale 2’ is a re-interpretation of ‘Femme Fatale’ with a close-up on the face of the character. I further enlarged the size of the pixels to reinforce the feel of hypnotism and sensuality of the imagery. In this artwork, the weapon isn’t so visible anymore while the focus is made on the woman’s alluring gaze.

Femme Fatale

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper
23x30cm – 2019

This artwork explores the archetype of the Femme Fatale, a powerful and dangerous woman who uses her charm and seduction to manipulate and control those around her. Using a reduced range of colors, this timeless figure is hereby rendered as an hypnotic, sensual and confident woman.

Coeur Coeur

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper
50x50cm – 2019

‘Coeur Coeur’ is a print that delves into the dichotomy of the real heart and the heart-shape symbol. The real heart is depicted as the physical organ in its raw, unfiltered state, complete with all its imperfections and complexities, while the heart-shape is the idealized, stylized version of the heart commonly used as a symbol of love and emotion.

Through this duality, I wanted to explore the idyllic, romanticized beginnings of a love relationship and how it evolves over time. It also delves into the darker aspects of relationships, such as the pain of heartbreak and loss, and is a reminder of the fragility and beauty of love in its imperfections.

We Are Leaving Now!

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper
50x70cm – 2019

We are Leaving Now!’ is a silkscreen printing that features a character from the classic Japanese arcade game ‘Elevator Action Return’, released in 1994 and well known for its challenging gameplay and captivating storyline. This scene depicts the pilot who, despite wanting to wait for their comrades, is forced to depart on their own.

Through this piece, I explored the portrayal of distress in video games and how it creates a connection between players and the characters.

Headshot

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper

50x70cm – 2019

This print is the end of life of a monster in the 1993 video game ‘Doom’. When I played this game for the first time, I felt that the graphics of dying characters were particularly anxiety-provoking.

In this artwork, I wanted to explore the empathy felt by players when their beloved characters meet their demise, emphasizing the strong connection that can be formed between player and avatar in the virtual world.

Overdone

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper

50x70cm – 2019

This artwork is a representation of a character in the Japanese video game ‘Metal Slug’ of 1996. This character is a soldier’s enemy, with a facial expression of terror and abandon in his eyes.

This artwork is a nostalgic tribute to the golden age of the 90’s video games that explores the emotionally charged moments of character death, showing the emotions of characters as they reach the end of their digital lives.

ASSIMILATION>DOG>CELL

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper (+UV lamp option)
40x110cm – 2021

‘ASSIMILATION>DOG>CELL’ is an artwork based on a scene of the movie ‘The Thing’. This print is a representation of h-sync, the phenomenon of colors appearing out of sync or misaligned on a television or other electronic display, typical of the 80’s TV glitches. The use of desynchronized colors and the grainy look further accentuate the h-sync feel.

Type IV AFV Girida-O

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper
50x70cm – 2018

‘Type IV AFV Girida-O’ is a tank used by enemies in ‘Metal Slug’, a Japanese run and gun video game of 1996. I deliberately made the vehicle sufficiently small to give it a ridicule touch, while isolating it on a big red canvas, to keep the impressive feel of the armored fighting vehicle.

Crime City

Silkscreen printing on Yupo paper
50x70cm – 2019

‘Crime City’ is the title of the eponymous game. I created this artwork for the melancholic aspect of the bold red title with the background of pixelated windows of towering buildings. This artwork is also an  experimentation testing with pixels that are only composed of two different sizes in equal spacing, further reinforcing the TV screen aspect of the print.

Untitled 01

‘Untitled 01’ is a color experimentation in moirés with a grid system replaced by a pattern.
